This should come as no surpise; the piece tells the story of how God created the heavens, the Earth, the Sun, the Moon, the stars, plants, animals and mankind in six days. There could hardly be a better occasion to marvel at all this – while marvelling at Haydn’s wit and vivid imagery – than the traditional New Year’s concert at Müpa Budapest, conducted, as always, by Ádám Fischer. His partners this time are the Danish Chamber Orchestra, with which he shares a long-standing artistic kinship, and the Vienna Arnold Schoenberg Choir, an ensemble whose history has become inextricably linked to Nikolaus Harnoncourt’s productions. The three outstanding soloists are Nikola Hillebrand, Mauro Peter and Andreas Bauer Kanabas.
