Sheol - Monika Wachowicz és Jarosław Fret // Performing Poland

A Perform[ing] Poland projektje hét eredeti performance-t foglal magába, melyeket a Lengyelországban élő és alkotó művésznők új generációja – performerek, táncosok, színésznők, előadóművészek – talált ki és valósított meg. Mindegyik performance olyan problémákkal foglalkozik, amelyekkel leírhatjuk a bennünket körülvevő szociális tér változásainak jelen állapotát..

SHEOL / שאול - Monika Wachowicz és Jarosław Fret színházi ’szeánsza’ // Performing Poland

(scroll down for english)

A Perform[ing] Poland a Kereszteződések; Nők a performatív művészetekben elnevezésű program keretében jött létre, melynek szervezője Monika Wachowicz; a projektet a wrocławi Jerzy Grotowski Intézet indította el 2021/22-ben.

Sheol / שאול
Theatre seance by Monika Wachowicz and Jarosław Fret

Sheol is at once a theatrical séance and a very contemporary lamentation for the dead and the undead, the born and the unborn. It is a descent to the bottom of silence down the thin line of breath, voice and sound; a silence that, like the mythical Sheol, covers and closes, becoming a veil through which no feeling or image can pass through. Love is the only force that can save those entering Sheol. Their descent is accompanied by music, or rather its extraordinary density, as if our bodies were just a sound or an instrument and at the same time a path into bottomless depths.

Inspired by a fascination with Henryk Górecki’s Symphony No. 3, also known as The Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, and including excerpts from Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time and Gregorgio Allegri’s Miserrere, Sheol is a story about the desire and will to live a life that is full and vibrant like breathing fire.

Perform[ing] Poland

Perform[ing] Poland brings seven original pieces of art, ideated and created by the new generation of women - Performers, Dancers, Actresses, Artists and Artivists currently living and feeling in Poland.

All the works oscillate around the problems with which we can describe the reality of the Era of Social Change, which still has not received its final shape and seems to be drifting in an undefined, dangerous direction. What values are we called upon to describe anew, call it the language of the art at the time when the language of politics and the language of our streets failed like never before.

Will Freedom, Dignity and Love retain their place only in the space of the “composed experience of art”? or will they be able to inhabit our Hearts, our Homes, ours Streets, as always till now and as always anew.

Perform[ing] Poland was established as a result of the Interstices. Women in Performing Arts program, curated by Monika Wachowicz and implemented in 2021/22 by the Jerzy Grotowski Institute in Wrocław.
