This programme is like a lavishly laid festive table set in the heart of Krakow: behind the dishes lie deep emotions, rich tradition and special musical seasonings. It kicks off with Stanisław Moniuszko’s fabulous fantasy overture, which combines a pinch of romance and a helping of fairy dust with lots of dramatic magic. As the main course, we will hear the opening Allegro maestoso movement of Chopin’s well-known First Piano Concerto, which alternates between passion and lyricism to create a musical world that is both intimate and solemn – a true gourmet treat. As for the dessert, we'll conclude this Polish menu with a fresh, vibrant and cheerful 20th-century work by Antoni Szałowski. Conducting the Hungarian National Philharmonic will be Marcell Dénes-Worowski, with the ever-engaging Szilveszter Szélpál as the host.
