Gábor Gadó – János Ávéd – Attila Gyárfás (HU)

A direct precursor of this trio is the duo of Gábor Gadó and János Ávéd, whose album Whispering Quiet Secrets into Hairy Ears was released in 2022 on BMC Records and quickly won two prestigious awards in the French jazz world (Citizen Jazz ÉLU and Jazz Magazine CHOC). Gadó and Ávéd are now expanding into a trio with drummer Attila Gyárfás, thus continuing and recreating their creative work together.  more

Their work is inspired by the compositional world of Erik Satie and Charles Mingus, the poetry of Anna Ahmatova, and the violin playing of Hiromi Kikuchi. On the other hand, the cultural-aesthetic conception of Japanese Zen is the source and medium of the three musicians' ideas, including wabi-sabi – which, in contrast to the pursuit of perfection, finds beauty in transience, in the transitory, in the incomplete –, johakyū – the concept of a slow, accelerating, and then immediately ending tempo that defines tea ceremonies, martial arts, traditional Japanese theatre, and even poetry –, or yūgen, the perception of beauty through invisible, obscure, mysterious phenomena. These inspirations are indirectly and holistically transformed into original compositions.
